The 2017 IFBB/NPC Governor’s Cup is just around the corner. On April 1st, 2017, the best of the best will fight to win the most prestigious trophy that a physique competitor can hold; the IFBB Governor’s Cup.
While all the competitors are trying to block everything out and focus just on winning the gold, Shelace Shoemaker, yes the Fit Mom of the Month at PlanetGainz for December 2016, is balancing her family life and #bodybuilding career like the Pro that she is.
We were able to get a hold of her just a few days away from the 2017 NPC Governor’s Cup competition, so we asked her about everything that team PlanetGainz and Shelace Shoemaker’s friends and supporters wanted to know about. Here goes the interview:
Q1: Which category are you competing in?
I am competing in Women’s Figure.
Q2: How long have you been prepping for this show?
We started my nutrition and training in January. Right at the start of the new year.
Q3: What changes have you experienced since your last show in terms of your motivation, training regime, physique changes, lifestyle etc.
This show has been a little bit more challenging for me because of my new hours at my new job. Last year, I was working an 8:30-4:30 schedule and this year I am working a 6:45-2:45 schedule. Getting up early for fasted cardio at 2:30 every day was a difficult change. I still teach classes at night at the gym, so I’m not getting home until 7 or 8 every night.
It makes for really long days! Sleeping in until 5:30 on the weekends seemed like a treat. Training remained pretty consistent to last year except we continue to try to get heavier as we go. I’ve gained a lot of strength in my back rows and pulls and in my squats. I did, however, change up my abs quite a bit. I now do them every other day.That has paid off this time around! I have gained 7 lbs of muscle since my last show.
Q4: Everyone can see you are super-ripped right now. Please take us through your weekly workout routine.
I don’t really have a set routine! Because my back and legs are areas I really need to improve, those days were usually always left for my trainer, who I train with twice a week. If I hit back, then we would do shoulders, because delts are one of the key areas they look at in figure. Sundays was usually designated for glutes and hammies and then I teach spinning classes at a gym.
Occasionally these would be double days and I’d go to the gym in the evenings with my husband and lift arms or back. Tuesdays was usually legs while they were still fresh and I wasn’t exhausted from a crazy week. And Fridays were back or shoulders. I’d throw arms, chest, calves, in there depending on what I did around my training days with my coach. I did fasted cardio 6-7 days a week and as we got closer to competition this increased a little.
Q5: What does your nutrition plan look like?
This, too, change so often, I can’t write down a “plan.” I can tell you I eat 6 meals a day, and they are MEALS, not snacks. Each mel has 5-7 ounces of protein, depending on where we are in prep and how my body is responding. My meats consists of ground beef, filet mignon, salmon, white fish, egg whites, whole eggs, chicken and a protein shake (again, depending on where in prep I am).
My carbs include sweet potato (my absolute favorite!), brown rice, oatmeal and quinoa, Veggies are whatever, but asparagus is my go to. It’s just see easy! And for as much as I eat, I really haven’t gotten sick of it, yet. My favorite little “treat” I give myself is protein waffles covered in Almond butter and cinnamon. And man, can I eat! I eat over 2000 calories a day.
Q6: Which supplements are you currently making use of to assist you with your overall diet and workout plans?
I take a daily multivitamin, CLAs, BCAAs twice a day, fish oil, CQ10, probiotics, digestive enzymes, a fat burner, and a pre workout. It would really just be easier to take a picture of my cabinet so you could see everything! HA!
Q7: We, Team PlanetGainz, are confident that you’ll win the 2017 IFBB/NPC Governor’s Cup. Are you confident that you’ll beat every other woman out there and grab the trophy?
Well, that’s a huge compliment! Thank you! Honestly, no, I am never confident that I will beat anyone. I know there are some amazing women out there that are busting their asses and training just as hard as I am day in and day out, and there could very well likely be a better physique out there then what I bring that day.
I do, however, feel confident in what I am bringing to the stage this weekend. We wanted to make changes and built in certain areas and we made changes and are continuing to build. It’s been a lot of fun to watch my body transform over the year! Challenging, but fun!
Q8: Do you have any message for your existing or new fans and supporters who will be seeing the show and anticipating for you to win?
My support from friends, family and strangers has been so incredible! Each motivating post or message or text or anything that I get from people has been what has pushed me along through this journey. It is physically and mentally challenging, but when you have the right support team behind you and people motivating you from all corners of the earth, it’s amazing how it keeps you focused and going on.
So I guess, if I said anything, it would be a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been nothing but encouraging and my major cheerleaders along the way. It’s because of them I can walk up there confident on Saturday!
Q9: Any message for Planet Gainz’ fans?
Thank you to all who have followed me on this journey. Competing is a job in itself and requires a lot of time, will power and dedication. Respect those who grace that stage, because they have put in many hours, said no to many friends and family, worked through physical pain and mental breaks and still manage to walk across that stage with smiles on their faces to show off all that hard work.
